GENERALINFORMATION

The National Office of Electoral Processes of Peru (ONPE) provides citizens basic information within the framework of the 2nd Presidential Election 2016.

SECOND ELECTION 2016

According to the Article 2º of Supreme Decree Nº 080-2015-PCM, through which Peruvian General Elections are called, in case of neither of candidates for President of the Republic of Peru and Deputy Presidents obtain over half of valid votes at the election held on April 10th, 2016, a second election will be held between two candidates, who have obtained the highest voting, on Sunday Jun 5th, 2016.

Who will we elect?

At this election, we will elect:


PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC

President of the republic is the Head of State and of Government of the Republic of Peru. He personifies Peruvian nation; he is the Executive Power’s Head and Peruvian Armed Forces and the National Police of Peru’s Supreme Head.

This post is assumed by the highest authority of the country and the highest government employee.

He leads the general policy of the Government and the State administration.


DEPUTY PRESIDENTS OF THE REPUBLIC

Two Deputy Presidents will be elected. Deputy President is the authority, who replaces the President and takes up his duties if necessary.

Polling supervisors

INFORMATION ADDRESSED TO POLLING SUPERVISORS

Your participation at this Second Presidential Election is essential to guarantee the right to vote and the affirmation of our democracy.

If you were elected as polling supervisor for the election held on April 10th, 2016, you will assume the post against on Sunday Jun 5th, 2016. Those polling supervisors, who did not exercise the post, must do it at this second election.

Training day addressed to polling supervisors will be held on May 29th, 2016.

In order to guarantee that the voting starts at 8:00 A.M., we call you to be present at your polling station at 7:00 A.M.


On fines

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT ATTEND TO VOTE?

The voting is obligatory for Peruvians aged 18 and older living in Peru and overseas.

The voting is optional for people aged over 70.


WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM POLLING SUPERVISOR AND I DO NOT FULFILL THE DUTY?

If you were elected as polling supervisor, you must attend to exercise this duty; on the contrary, you will must pay a fine for not installing voting table that amounts to 5% of Tax Units (ITU).


IF I DO NOT FULFILL POLLING SUPERVISOR’S DUTY AT THE FIRST AND SECOND ELECTIONS, I WILL BE FINED AGAINST?

If you do not install voting table at the first election and you do not fulfill your duty at this second election to be held on June 5th, 2016, you will accumulate an additional fine and thus you will have two fines for not fulfilling polling supervisor’s duty, which figure will amount to 10% of ITU.

WHEN WILL THE ELECTION BE HELD?

This process will be held on Sunday Jun 5th , 2016, from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.


WHAT DOCUMENT IS REQUIRED TO CAST THE RIGHT TO VOTE?

Peruvian Identity Card (ID) is the only document valid to cast the right to vote.


POLLING STATION WILL BE THE SAME AS AT THE FIRST ELECTION?

Polling stations allocated for the first election will be the same at this second election.

Remind to verify your polling station, the location of your voting table, room and order in the electoral register at Peruvian Consulate or on www.onpe.gob.pe.

Do not forget that voting tables are alphabetical ordered.
